Posted Mar. 13, 2012

The Kent State University at Stark Music Department will present a Faculty Recital by Assistant Professor of Music Brandon Vaccaro on Friday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Hall Auditorium, located at 6000 Frank Avenue in Jackson Township. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Vaccaro, an assistant professor of music, will offer a performance of original guitar-amplifier-computer compositions. He composed, produced and engineered the featured works, entitled Distillations, which consists of electro-acoustic music, and Improvisations, featuring an evolving, ambient, textural sound montage.

A recipient of numerous commendations, awards and commissions for his work as a composer, Vaccaro’s music has been performed by the Tosca String Quartet, the Vinca Quartet and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra, among others. The soloist and ensemble performer was a guitarist for the bands, Kallisti and Coefficient of Friction. His group, Free Love Ensemble, was praised for its blend of “cutting-edge jazz with rock influences and motifs inspired by 20th century classical music” (Westword). From 2007-08, he was curator on a series for experimental music, sound installations and audio/visual works, entitled Soundscapes.

Recently, Vaccaro earned a nomination for the Motion Pictures Sound Editors Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing: Short Form Documentary in Television for his work on the PBS documentary, Above the Ashes.
