Stark Theatre Announces Open Auditions for The Glass Menagerie

Posted Jan. 5, 2011

Kent State University at Stark Theatre will hold open auditions for the season’s third theatrical production, The Glass Menagerie. This American classic play by one of our greatest playwrights, Tennessee Williams, will be performed on April 8, 9, 10, 14 (special matinee for high school students) 15, 16 and 17 in the Kent State Stark Theatre.

Auditions will be held on
Friday, Jan. 28 from 2 - 3 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m.; and Saturday, Jan. 29 from 2 - 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township.

Auditions are open to everyone, including students, staff and community persons.

Those auditioning may elect to work from sides (selected scene excerpts) or perform a brief prepared monologue either from the play or another modern realistic script. The director will also choose sides for people and scene partners.

Scripts and audition sides are available to review for periods up to 24 hours from the secretary in the Fine Arts Building, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Call the secretary at 330-244-5151 for more information.

Audition appointments are recommended but not required. Scripts and audition sides will also be available in the reserve area of the Library, and this play is widely available elsewhere.

Rehearsals will begin on Feb. 21 and will occur approximately five evenings per week until opening.

For more audition information, contact Brian Newberg, theatre director at Kent State Stark, at bnewberg@kent.edu or 330-244-3352.
